Since shooting firearms in a dynamic sport like IPSC requires a certain perishable skill set, it is imperative that we keep our skills refreshed and up to par to be safe during a match and course of fire. As an organization we have determined that shooting qualifiers successfully is the measure for making sure our skill set has not eroded and we are good to continue in our sport. So as an organization we track everyone’s matches, yours can be found on the Classification Lookup Table by entering your IPSCBC member number. Here, your last match date will determine what requirements you will need to complete to participate in competition again.
For the first 2 calendar years after your last qualifier, you are free to register for any match. After the second year and beyond the requirements to shoot become more rigorous every year until you are required to complete a new badge course and start fresh again. So here is a breakdown of the requirements from pages 5 and 6 in our Policy and Procedures Manual found on the Resources page of the members only area of the website.
Scenario 1 – Less than 2 calendar years since your last qualifier:
- The member may register for any qualifier match.
Scenario 2 – Over two years and less than three years, the member must:
- Purchase new Training (Black Badge) Certification Course material from a Training Course Instructor (TCI).
- Write the Open Book Exam and pass it by a minimum of 76%.
- Complete a Level I or higher match.
Scenario 3 – Over three years and less than four years, the member must:
- Purchase new BBCC course material from a TCI.
- Write the Open Book Exam and pass it by a minimum of 76%.
- Complete and pass the Qualification Checklist requirements of the BBCC.
- Complete a Level II or higher qualifier match.
Scenario 4 – Four or more years, the member must:
- Re-take the BBCC.
With the world going into COVID protocols and being unable to have a shooting season in 2020, your calculations have become a little more complicated. So, if your last qualifier was in:
- 2021: You are good to compete.
- 2020: You are good to compete.
- 2019: You may or may not be good to go. The Board has decided that you will have a 1-month grace period to complete a match for your 2 years. But you may be required to complete Scenario 2 if you do not register soon enough.
- 2018: Your will need to complete Scenario 3.
- 2017 and earlier: You will need to complete Scenario 4.
What are the next steps if you want to compete again?
- If you are not an active member and have not paid your membership fees, reach out to the membership coordinator at so they can discuss your next step and which scenario you fall into.
- Find a Training Course Instructor (TCI) to discuss your requirements based on the above. A list of instructors in your area can be found on the Contact Us page. Or you can go directly to the Course Calendar to find a Course in your area.
- Complete the required recertification steps.
- Shoot a qualifier.
Remember these steps take time, so it is best to plan ahead and try not wait until the last minute, as you will be likely disappointed in not being able to register in time for the match you want to shoot in.
