First of all, thank you to all members for your patience while we sort out the issue with the crash that happened on Tuesday, March 15th during the TMSA registration. It was an unfortunate setback and part of the growing pains as we move to electronic registration with a growing membership.
Just to give you some idea of the traffic that happened at 7 PM, here is what the server experienced:
- 700 visitors
- 15,733 page visits
- 107,397 hits
- 1.5 GB of downloaded data
This is on top of the forum being slammed with email notifications sending out 800 emails that hour. This is the reason why we are suspending the forum for now until these registrations are complete.
Just a reminder, this was all for only 120 spots in two matches.
We have spoken with the website hosting company and they have acknowledged the issue and assured us that it’s rectified. That being said, we really have no way to be sure until we try again. So here is what the board has decided to do for the next couple registrations:
The June 4/5 Kamloops Matches are set to open registration as originally planned for Tuesday, March 22nd at 7:00pm.
The May 22/23 TMSA Match registrations have been postponed to Tuesday, March 29th at 7:00pm.
We will be monitoring the situation and fingers crossed we can get people registered for the matches. In case the registration still cannot handle the traffic, whether it be the website or the registration system, we will have a backup server ready to go to divert the traffic to another host. Should all of this still fail, we will have to look at temporarily going back to a direct Practiscore registration in the interim until we are able to upgrade or move our hosting provider.
Once again, the board thanks you for your understanding in these matters.
