To all IPSC BC members,
We held our NEC meeting today and the decision was made to cancel the Nationals for 2020. Please see the message from Sean Hansen, our Regional Director, below
Sincerely,
Robert Engh
Section Coordinator IPSC BC
Gentlemen,
Following up on our meeting tonight – we – the NEC of IPSC Canada made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Handgun Nationals.
After reviewing all the restrictions within the provinces due to the current COVID situation, we agreed that we could not offer a championship that represented the country’s best. Many provinces would require quarantining of competitors after attendance, making the event a 3 week process for entrants. Some provinces could not send anyone to the event. One province has yet to even be permitted to offer IPSC competition this year. The possibility of rollbacks of restrictions due to the new school year in September compounded the issue; putting the match in even more jeopardy.
The decision was unanimous within the NEC. There will be no 2020 IPSC Canada Handgun Championships.
The match director has been informed (and is copied on this email) and refunds will eventually disperse for entries.
Please ask your members to be patient as there are constraints within the banking systems for doing the refunds and many competitors to get to.
Also note that this will have no bearing on any IPSC Canada ranking structure towards Level 4 and 5 events. Rankings from 2019 will stand for 2021.
This is the first time in my 30 years of involvement with IPSC Canada that we have not held a national championship. It is historic, but not in a good way. But – we’re not alone. Many other sports and many other organizations have had to put 2020 on hold. It’s no one’s fault. It’s just the circumstances of the day.
I’d prefer to look at the positive – 2021 will bring a new nationals; hopefully – two. One for Shotgun and one for Handgun and we’ll all get back together like we have in the past and celebrate our fantastic sport. I’m already counting the days ’til then.
You may forward this to your membership as you need.

As a Section, we need to extend our thanks and appreciation to the NEC to keep us, and your sport, safe.
A difficult decision but the best one during a pandemic.
Let’s all hope 2021 sees us back enjoying our game.
Maintain physical distancing, and/or wear a mask, wash your hands, stay healthy, keep well
