Jim Smith (NROI Coordinator, IPSC Canada) and Sean Hansen (Regional Director, IPSC Canada) have been working on a response to the new Bill C-21 legislation and have a possible strategy they would like to pursue with your participation. The timeline for getting this done is unclear; some rumours have this being passed by Order In Council effective immediately, which would be the worst case scenario .
If the legislation follows the proper course it is unlikely it could be passed in the current Spring sitting and would likely be dealt with in the Fall sitting, approximately October or November, best case. Basically we want to initiate a letter campaign to have IPSC added to the line in the bill as “Elite Athletes” equal to and the same as Olympic athletes.
Ontario has produced a letter for a signature from Vitaly as our World Body and it has been sent for NEC approval and then signing and submittal. We are working on separate different letters to the Prime Minister, all MP’s, Senators, Provincial Premiers and Provincial MLA’s.
