My name is Dean Hooper. I am from England and I have been in Canada since 2013. I became a Canadian citizen in 2023, two days after my 40th birthday.
I spent 12 years in the British military as a Communication Systems Technician, and then moved over to Canada when I left the army.
I have been doing IPSC since 2021, so I’m still relatively new to the sport. However, I have been shooting since I was 15 in Army Cadets, and then in the British Army.
I also shoot .22 pistol silhouette, .22 rifle silhouette, .22 PRS and outlaw, and centre fire PRS.
In the time that I have been doing IPSC I started in Trail and then I moved to Cranbrook in 2023.
I have organized, and ran, probably close to 50 informal matches, in Trail and Cranbrook, and I am attempting to bring the sport back to the East Kootenays. My goal is to run a successful match, for the first time in I believe 12 years, in Cranbrook, and cement that match as a yearly fixture.
I’m also hoping to grow the sport in the Kootenays by way of several black badge courses.
I am now a Range Officer, and my goal is to attend as many matches as possible to grow my knowledge, and progress to becoming a CRO.
I am also actively working towards becoming a Black Badge instructor.
My hope is to grow the Kootenay membership over the next 2 years, and to champion our matches to attempt to get more attendance. Also, to represent the Kootenays to the best of my ability on the Board of Directors, and be transparent with the membership.
