My name is Glen Smith and I am running for the position of Island Zone Director and have graciously accepted the nomination.
I have been shooting IPSC for 20 years now and have competed all around the Province and Country. I feel that a very important part of being a Zone Director is being active and shooting off of Vancouver Island. There are many amazing clubs throughout our Province and it is hard to keep up to date with shooters and their clubs if you do not travel to matches that are being held . I have been fortunate to represent BC on the Open National team several times and have competed in many of our National events across the country. Most recently I was in Peterborough Ontario and am heading off to Taber Alberta to compete is this years 2025 Canadian Nationals. This has allowed me to see how other Provinces and Clubs run their matches and be able to bring best practices from these places back to BC that may allow us to change and better the way that things operate in our home Province by providing a different prospective.
I have recently completed my training as a CRO/RO instructor and have been teaching these courses over the past several years. This gives me great satisfaction to see shooters move up in their confidence and wanting to contribute back to the sport. I am also a TCI (black badge) instructor and have been so for many years, I enjoy training individuals to be able to compete at events
I have been a Zone Director on the Island as well as the Zone Director when I lived up North so have a very good understanding of the organization and what the duties are as a Director and what needs to be done. My experience in all of the listed positions has given me a depth of knowledge of all aspects of IPSC BC and an understanding of the history of IPSC BC and how we need to modernize and move forward as an organization. Having been a Zone Director in the past and in different zones has allowed me to stay close with the changes and things that have evolved over the years and to see what has been working and what has not been successful.
I am currently in the Range Master Program and looking forward to finishing off that training as we need more Range Masters in the Province. I have also been a match director so understand how a match runs, what needs to be done and the work that is involved when our match directors step up and put on their matches.
My goal is to encourage new ones into the sport, be available to answer the questions and concerns of our members and ensure that my zone is represented in all the meetings that we hold. We must remember that we are all doing this to have fun and enjoy ourselves.
